What is break bulk?
Break bulk is freight that cannot be loaded into any ocean container or too large for air cargo. Therefore this type of package can only be carried by a truck (ground) or ocean flat-rack which both will require wide load permits to haul. Break bulk is any commodity that because of its weight, dimension or incompatibility with other cargo must be shipped loose, loaded individually on a vessel and stowed directly in the ship’s hold. As opposed to containerized cargo, break bulk requires special packaging which can withstand all types of heavy handling both during transport and at the loading facilities in rail yards and shipyards.
What are the methods employed for break bulk?
Break Bulk freight is crated the same way as any other crate but the weight will determine the type of method used for the structure.

For cargo exceeding our crane capacity, we can also provide off site lifting; crating and loading by way of our extensive network of rigging and warehousing affiliates.
Is there special handling equipment used for break bulk?
Typically if the weight is heavy then over-head crane will be used to maneuver onto transport vehicle, if the weight is light enough then a standard forklift can be operated. Brent has a network of Riggers, Freight Forwarders that work together with us to get the impossible jobs done.
What are the types of materials used for break bulk?
Materials used for packing a Break bulk crate is 3×4 runners with 2×6 Base, 2×4 stud walls ½” plywood. Nails are used to attach everything together and lag bolts or carriage bolts are used to secure the product onto the base.
